EASTON, Md. - Federal Little League's 11-12 All-Stars returned to the Maryland State Tournament with its bats loaded on Saturday.

Making its second straight trip to states, Federal made a grand case as a tournament favorite by blasting South Maryland, from Davidsonville, 30-0 in 3 1/2 innings.

Today, Federal will take on Frederick National, a 10-0 winner over Hughesville. The game can be heard online at

Federal's Zane Schreiber led the onslaught with four hits, including three home runs, and 11 RBIs. He was at the head of a pack of sluggers that knocked six balls out of the park in all.

In a six-run first inning, Schreiber delivered a three-run blast, Ryan Kinter had an RBI single and Mark Grunberg added a sacrifce fly.

Then, Federal really went to work with back-to-back 12-run innings.

Schreiber started the second with a solo homer. Nick Karlen had an RBI single and Adam Blenckstone belted a two-run homer. After a single and two walks, Schreiber hit a two-run single. Dalton Jobe hit his second single of the inning and Josh Moats capped off the frame with a grand slam.

In the third, Blenckstone led off with a single and Federal took advantage of a walk, a hit batter and two run-scoring errors. Jobe smacked a three-run homer, and after a walk, Josh Barron got in the long-ball act with a two-run shot. Two more walks and a single by Ryan Byard led to a grand slam by Schreiber.

Federal finished with 19 hits and benefitted from 11 walks.

Andrew Yacyk, who received four of the walks, picked up the win on the hill, allowing one hit through three innings. He struck out seven of the nine batters he faced. Barron pitched the top of the fourth inning and struck out the side.
