Economy blamed for delay in expansion of Sheffield Manor

August 05, 2008|By JENNIFER FITCH

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Construction for an expansion of Sheffield Manor will be delayed due to the economy.

M&H Construction, of Waynesboro, asked the Washington Township (Pa.) Supervisors to approve a new schedule of phases for the planned residential development. On Monday, the supervisors accepted that schedule, which spans from 2009 to 2017.

The developer received tentative approval in August 2006 for 168 condominiums and 42 town houses. Sheffield Manor is off of Pa. 997 north. The new development was proposed to stretch east toward Gehr Road.

"I'm not sure we have a lot of discretion in the matter (on phases) because it's under tentative approval," Township Solicitor John Lisko said. "If it had final approval, we'd have to hold a hearing."

Township Manager Mike Christopher said the request came "based on the slowdown of the economy, they're asking for more time to start phase one."
