Boonsboro students receive Keedysville Ruritan scholarships

The Keedysville Ruritan Club recently awarded scholarships to Boonsboro High School graduates.

· Hannah Crosby of Boonsboro was the recipient of the $2,000 Rome Schwagel Scholarship, established under the Ruritan National Foundation's "Build Your Dollars Grant Program," which allows a local club to select a worthy individual from their community to receive a grant.

Hannah plans to attend the University of Maryland to study biology, pre-med. She earned a 4.30 GPA, was ranked first in her class, was on the Distinguished Honor Roll, was a Maryland Distinguished Scholar and won the Outstanding Excellence award in English and Government.

· Kayla Barnes received a $500 scholarship established by the Keedysville Ruri-teen group to help a Ruri-teen member attend college.

Kayla serves as the president of the Ruri-teen group and plans to attend Frostburg University to study physical therapy.

· Jeffrey De Tora received a $500 scholarship. Jeffrey currently serves with Boy Scout Troop 20 of Boonsboro and has performed numerous hours helping out the Ruritan Club over the past several years. He plans to attend the University of Maryland to study engineering.

· Brittany Bowman and Andrew Griffith received $100 Emma Lou Schwagel awards for their agricultural achievements. Brittany plans to attend Hagerstown Community College to study nursing.
