Darryl Brenzel Trio

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will present the Darryl Brenzel Trio in a concert on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The trio will perform some original compositions, jazz classics and some pop tunes done in an acoustic setting with modern sensibilities. It consists of Darryl Brenzel on sax, Jeff Lopez on acoustic bass and Todd

Harrison on drums. Selections will include "All the Things That..." by Dave Liebman, "Softly As In a Morning Sunrise" by Hammerstein & Romberg, "Manic Depression" by Jimi Hendrix and "Cosita No. 1" by Darryl Brenzel, among others.

Saxophonist Brenzel, a resident of Frederick, Md., began playing professionally at the age of 18 and shortly thereafter joined the Marines for four years.  He then attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and re-entered the service after graduation, this time serving in the Army's Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps where he remained until winning a spot with the Army Jazz Ambassadors, the Army's premiere jazz band.  He has served there since as a saxophonist, chief composer/arranger and assistant director.  During this time, Brenzel has also worked as a

freelance musician and leader of his own groups in the D.C. region.  He recently released the CD Pentasphere on the JennJazz label.  He has composed music for professional and collegiate music groups and as a composer is a

three-time winner in the American Music in the Armed Forces competition as well as a grant recipient from the Maryland State Arts Council.  Brenzel has performed with Chris Isaak, the Beach Boys, The Drifters, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Martha & The Vandellas, and the

Four Tops.

Jeff Lopez hails from Staten Island, N.Y., and is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music.  Among his many private instructors is the legendary Jaco Pastorius.

Todd Harrison is from Houston, Texas, and was a first call drummer there in the jazz, funk and Latin music scene.  Both Lopez and Harrison are also members of the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors.
