August 03, 2008|By DAN DEARTH

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - A 50-year-old man drowned Saturday afternoon in the Potomac River while he was fishing with his brother off Terrapin Neck Road near Shepherdstown, Cpl. Ben Williams of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said.

Williams said authorities are not ready to release the name of the man, whose body was taken to Charleston, W.Va., for an autopsy to ensure foul play wasn't involved.

The man was in an inner tube and his brother was in a boat when the two became separated, Williams said.

People on the riverbank pulled the man's body ashore after they saw him floating in the river, Williams said. Authorities were called at about 4:20 p.m. when the man didn't respond to first aid, he said.
