August 01, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A man attempted to stab a Berkeley County deputy reserve with a screwdriver Friday afternoon at the corner of Wilson Street and Winchester Avenue in Martinsburg, according to a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department press release.

Bradley Dewayne Bonnet was charged with attempted malicious wounding and failure to be fingerprinted, police said. He was taken to Eastern Regional Jail.

Bonnet allegedly walked up to the reserve deputy and said, "I've got something for you," before he stabbed at the officer with the screwdriver, police said. The reserve deputy was able to dodge the blow and, after a short struggle, Bonnet fled the scene.

Bonnet was apprehended by a bystander who observed the attack and was detained until authorities arrived, police said.
