Legends feast on Suns with early launch

August 01, 2008

Air-raid sirens should have sounded at Municipal Stadium on Thursday.

That's because the Lexington Legends set out on a bombing mission.

Lexington clubbed home runs in each of the first four innings to build a 7-0 lead before cruising to a 12-4 victory over the Hagerstown Suns.

Hagerstown starter Terrence Engles was touched for three of the shots while reliever Ryan Phillabaum served up the fourth as Lexington scored all its early runs via the long ball.

Brian Pellegrini hit a two-run shot with one out in the first, followed by Max Sapp's leadoff homer in the second for a 3-0 lead.

Kyle Miller hit a two-run homer in the third, right before Engles was lifted and Eric Taylor got in the act in the fourth.

The Suns fought back to get within 7-3 with a run in the fourth on Travis Reagan's RBI double and added two more runs in the sixth on Garrett Bass' grounder and Jake Rogers' RBI single.

Lexington picked up a run in the seventh on Sapp's RBI double and added four in the ninth for insurance. Jonathan Fixler had a two-run double to highlight the rally.

Stephen King homered in the eighth for the Suns.

Anthony Bello went 5 1/3 innings for the win while Engles only lasted 2 2/3 innings.
