GM to hold meeting in Martinsburg about discontinued benefits

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - An informational meeting will be held in Martinsburg about General Motors' plan to discontinue health benefits for salaried retirees as part of a series of cost reductions, a leading member of an informal group of retired workers announced Wednesday.

The meeting will be Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, according to Lynn Riner.

Retirees, their spouses and surviving spouses who might have retired from GM operations at locations other than Martinsburg are invited to attend, and any person who represents an elderly or disabled retiree also is encouraged to attend, Riner said in a news release.

A GM health care initiatives representative and another official with Extend Health will present up-to-date facts, and retirees will be able to ask questions.
