Schmankerl Stube in Hagerstown gets OK to serve alcohol outside

July 31, 2008

The Schmankerl Stube Bavarian Restaurant in Hagerstown received permission Wednesday from Washington County liquor officials to serve alcohol in an enclosed area on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.

The Board of License Commissioners for Washington County, known as the liquor board, voted 2-0 to grant the license. A third member of the liquor board, Charles F. Mades, was absent and did not vote.

The cost to obtain a liquor license for a sidewalk cafe is $800 - $300 for the application and $500 for the license, said Robert L. Everhart, liquor board chairman.
