July 30, 2008

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- Thurmont police have made a second arrest and expect to make two more in connection with the beating of a 77-year-old man.

Police say a 15-year-old boy was arrested Saturday, one day after the arrest 18-year-old Gage Caudle. Both suspects are from Emmitsburg, Md., but police say the younger teen has family in Thurmont.

Both suspects are charged with assault and robbery in the July 20 beating at the home of Emory Rice. He told police he was attacked while he was sleeping in bed, then fought off his attackers.

Rice was taken to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
