Hagerstown 'A' loses

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Aaron Jones mustered two hits for the Hagerstown PONY 13 'A' All-Stars, but it proved to be too little as Hagerstown suffered its first loss in the PONY East Zone Tournament to Davidson-Cornelius Force, 6-1 on Monday afternoon.

STRUTHERS, Ohio -- Hagerstown went 2-2 to finish fourth at the Colt West Regional Tournament.

In a 16-5 win over Youngstown (Ohio), Nick Stubbs, Joey Miller, Cory Shank, Thomas Allen and Dwight Boward each had two hits, while pitchers Christian Binford and Boward combined for 11 strikeouts.

In a 7-3 loss to Butler (Pa.), Miller, Boward and Aaron Stotelmyer each had two hits, Thomas Allen had two RBIs and Brian Lesher had eight strikeouts.

In a 3-1 win over McCandless (Pa.), Binford pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Cory Shank had two RBIs.

In a 5-1 loss to the East Ohio All-Stars, Boward drove in the lone run.

Clear Spring: Josh Colliflower, Connor MIchael, Dylan Altman 2 hits each; turned triple play in bottom of sixth to end game.

Sharpsburg: Dalton Shank, Colton Bare 2 hits each.

Williamsport: Kayla Ewing 10 Ks; Emily Myers, Sarah Duffey, Taylor Davis 2 hits each.

Bricker far back

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Chad Bricker had a rough opening in the 95th Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship on Monday at Saucon Valley Country Club.

The Waynesboro, Pa., golfer posted an opening-round 7-over-par 78 on the 6,885-yard course, leaving him tied for 81st.

He had a 39-39 card and began his round with a double-bogey 7. He had three birdies on the day.

Chip Wolfe, of Chambersburg, Pa., shot an 80 and Mark Yost, also of Chambersburg, shot an 83. The leaders are Adam Cohen and David Brown, each at 2-under-par 69.
