Kearneysville youth wins two heats of All-American Soap Box Derby race

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Chase Crockett of Kearneysville, W.Va., won two heats at the All-American Soap Box Derby race in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday but lost in a third heat, officials said.

Crockett advanced to the national competition from the Ray Miller Memorial All-American Scholastic Soap Box Derby, which was held in Shepherdstown, W.Va., on June 14.

Crockett was one of five racers who advanced to Akron from the Shepherdstown competition and the Norwalk Soap Box Derby in Martinsburg, W.Va., on June 7.

The other four competitors were eliminated in their first rounds in Akron, officials said.
