Lioness Club's picnic location changed

There has been a change in the location for Hagerstown Lioness Club's August picnic. It will be held indoors Thursday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on West Washington Street.

September and October meetings will be held as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 4 - The meeting will be at the Academy Theatre, 53 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 2 - The meeting will be at the Academy Theatre, 53 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, at 6:30 p.m.

TOPS 446

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 446 members enjoyed an indoor picnic July 23. It was supposed to be at Pangborn Park, but inclement weather forced the group to hold the picnic indoors.

The group plans to have its area coordinator, Jacqie Cooper, at its Wednesday meeting. Anyone who wishes, may visit.

The group meets at 8 a.m. for weigh-in each Wednesday; the meeting is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown.

North End group plans block party

The North End Neighbors 1st Group will hold its 10th annual block party on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the 1300 block of The Terrace.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and tableware will be provided. Please bring a covered dish, enough for four people, in a disposable container.

Hagerstown fire and police officials will be on hand with short informational talks and equipment/tactical demonstrations. Gene Kelly will bring his vintage bus for all to tour. Pete Lancaster will provide music from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Please bring nonperishable food items for Food Resources Inc.

If it rains, the event will be held at the Morris Frock Post 42 pavilion on Northern Avenue.

TOPS 77

On July 21, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 group had a net loss of 43 3/4 pounds. Debbie Hardin was our best loser for the day and won the "Get-R-Done" contest. The chapter welcomed another new member, Joyce Chabot.

Patsy Rice led the program on "Emotional Eating" about ways to get around eating when things happen in our lives.

Dorothy Martin will lead the program today on "Fruit and Veggie Portions."

The annual picnic will be Monday, Sept. 8, at Martin L. "Marty" Snook Memorial Park in Halfway. The group will hold its weigh-ins and meeting there. This week, Johanna will lead chair exercise starting at 8:30 a.m.

The group meets on Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. Weigh-in is from 7:15 to 9:20 a.m., exercise at 8:30 a.m., and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. For more information, contact Donna at 301-223-8143 or Patsy at 301-582-2292.

Blood drives scheduled

The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold blood drives in the month of August at various locations in the county.

Each donor will be entered in a grand prize drawing for a year's supply of gas, valued at $2,400, or one of five $100 gas cards offered as runner-up prizes.

VBS at Haven Lutheran

Haven Lutheran Church's vacation Bible school called "Power Lab" begins tonight. It runs all this week from 6 to 8:30 p.m.  A light meal will be provided.  Also, there will be stories, music, crafts activities and games. Haven Lutheran Church is at 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown.
