BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Jake Bachtell had four hits, including two home runs, and seven RBIs to lead the Hagerstown PONY 14 'A' All-Stars to a 16-13 win over Chambersburg in the championship game of the East Zone West Region Tournament on Sunday.

Hagerstown trailed 12-5 after three innings, but battled back, highlighted by a seven-run sixth inning.

Austin Yost pitched strongly in relief for Hagerstown, holding Chambersburg to only one run while striking out two.

Aaron Stoner added three hits, including a home run, for Hagerstown, while Drew DeShong had three hits and Austin Yost and Aaron Dinterman each two hits.

Hagerstown advances to the East Zone Tournament, which starts Friday in Brockton, Mass.

PONY 13 East Zone Tournament

Hagerstown 13, CBC Chesterfield 0

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Phillip Pietro had three hits to lead the Hagerstown PONY 13 'A' All-Stars' 13-hit attack against CBC Chesterfield in its first game of the PONY East Zone Tournament.


Charles Cvijanovich added two hits and Logan Appel hit a home run for Hagerstown.

Aaron Jones pitched a complete-game one-hitter for Hagerstown, which will play its next game of the tournament today at 3 p.m.

Fouche sets course record

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Brian Fouche, 25, of Hagerstown broke the South Mountain Hill Climb course record by 3 seconds as he topped a field of roughly 40 riders Sunday.

Fouche, competing for Antietam Velo Club/Team Hagerstown-Washington County Tourism, covered the 7.3-mile course, which features more than 1,300 feet of elevation gain, in 24 minutes, 28 seconds.

Teammates Mike Spinnler and Beth Leasure also performed well.

Spinnler of Hagerstown finished sixth in 26:00, breaking his own 50-plus age-division record by 5 seconds. Leasure of Saint James was the second female in 32:17.

Also, Brad Dodson of Martinsburg, W.Va., was 12th (28:06); Dirk Martin of Boonsboro was 19th (29:14); James Mannis of Shepherdstown, W.Va., was 20th (29:22); and David Yates of Falling Waters, W.Va., was 31st (32:47).


Grier finishes 13th

CONCORD, N.H. -- Hagerstown's Ashley Grier stayed consistent at the Duramed FUTURES USI Championship on Sunday by posting a third consecutive 1-under-par 71.

Her 3-under 213 gave her a 13th-place finish, coming on the heels of an 11th-place finish the previous week in the Allianz Bank Classic.

It was the second straight tournament that each of Grier's rounds were at par or better. She collected a $909 paycheck.

Mo Martin, of Altadena, Calif., fired a 5-under-par 67 on the Beaver Meadow Golf Course to win the crown and $11,200 at 12-under-par 204.
