Kerns, Staebler receive Hospice of Panhandle $500 scholarships

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hospice of the Panhandle recently awarded two $500 scholarships to nursing students Deborah Kerns and Nancy Staebler.

Recipients of the annual award must be 21 years of age, live in the four-county area and be actively pursuing licensure as a registered nurse at one of eight local colleges or universities.

Kerns is enrolled in the nursing program at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College in Martinsburg. She has an extensive history in the medical field as a medical receptionist and is the intake assistant at Hospice of the Panhandle.

Staebler is an LPN employed at Berkeley Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing, and is pursuing an ASN degree at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College.

This is Staebler's second scholarship award; she was one of two 2007 recipients.

Margaret Cogswell, executive director, said in a prepared release that the scholarship "is one means of supporting nurses as they pursue their goal of providing care to children, adults and families in our immediate community."
