Hagerstown High class of '36 celebrates its 72nd anniversary reunion

The 72nd anniversary reunion of Hagerstown High School class of 1936 was held June 21 at Fountain Head Country Club. Twenty-seven classmates and 26 guests attended the luncheon.

The invocation was given by John W. Whitmore. After a luncheon of crab cakes or chicken marsala, a program of vocal music was given by the Rev. Dr. Raymond Moreland, executive director of the Maryland Bible Society.

A tribute was given to the class members who died this past year: Raymond Cheney, Richard Hart, Dorothy Voris Aldrich, Robert Voris, Joyce Wibberly Olivere and Imogene Spitzer Winters.

The entertainment continued with a generation gap reading by Mary Kinsley and songs played on the harmonica by Merle Barlup.

This was followed by a sing-along led by John W. Whitmore. The table floral arrangements were given as door prizes to Helen Keller Kepner, Tom Dilworth, Doloris Miller, Phyllis Harbaugh, William DeLauder, Kathryn Mowrer Latimore and Norman Holzappel.

The reunion committee included Helen Zentmyer Kreykenbohm, chairperson; Norman Holzappel, Belle Kretzer Greenfield, Helen Rohrer Smeak, Helen Keller Kepner, Henrietta Johnson Burns, Mildred Lefeore, Kathryn Mowrer Latimer, Genevieve Wyant, John W. Whitmore and Merle Barlup.

The program booklet was given by the family of Max O. Mogensen. The benediction was given by Genevieve Wyant.

The 73rd reunion will be held at Fountain Head Country Club at noon on Saturday, June 27, 2009.
