Work progresses on new Washington County Health System hospital

July 26, 2008

HAGERSTOWN -- Work continues on Washington County Health System's new hospital, which is being built near Robinwood Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Since construction began in February, workers have brought the footprint for the 511,000-square-foot building to grade.

About half of the caissons needed for the building's south tower and elevator tower have been installed. In all, 150 caissons will support three bed towers and the elevator tower.

Workers also have begun digging conduits for public utilities.

The $293.8 million hospital is expected to open in late 2010.
