Hagerstown man charged with firing handgun in city

A Hagerstown man has been charged with firing a handgun on July 5 in the first block of Broadway, according to Washington County District Court records.

Wesley Laquan Harvey, 32, of 25 Broadway, Apt. 4, was charged with reckless endangerment, second-degree assault, first-degree assault, carrying a handgun, carrying a handgun under the influence of alcohol, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm in the city of Hagerstown, according to court records.

A witness told investigators that Harvey fired in the direction of a man who had been in a fight with his girlfriend earlier that night, Hagerstown Police Department Officer Jason Dietz wrote in charging documents.

Harvey was being held Friday night at the Washington County Detention Center on $300,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 19 in Washington County District Court.

Judge doubles bond in cocaine case

A Washington County District judge on Wednesday raised the bond for a Chambersburg, Pa., man facing drug charges to $2 million.

Bobby Simmons Jr., 36, of 1935 Maylinn Drive in Chambersburg, was charged with 18 drug-related counts, including distribution of narcotics, according to Washington County District Court records.

The Washington County Narcotics Task Force alleged Simmons sold $2,800 worth of cocaine to a confidential informant in Washington County over a five-month period, according to court records.

Simmons' bond was raised to $2 million from $1 million at a bail review hearing before Washington County District Judge Mark D. Thomas, according to court records.

He was being held Friday night at the Washington County Detention Center.
