Unemployment rate in Washington County slightly higher in June

About 3,769 of the 70,107 people who comprised Washington County's work force in June were out of work, according to the most recent figures from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation.

Washington County's 5.4 percent unemployment rate in June was higher than in May, when it was 5 percent.

In June 2007, Washington County's unemployment rate was at 4.4 percent.

Washington County's June jobless rate was higher than Maryland's 4 percent rate for June. That figure was unchanged from May.

The U.S. jobless rate for June also remained unchanged from the 5.5 percent it was in May. In June 2007, the U.S. unemployment rate was 4.6 percent.

Of the 3.01 million people who made up Maryland's work force last month, 121,723 were unemployed, according to the department.
