Dog wash set for Aug. 16

The annual Dog Wash and "Flealess" Market and Yard Sale is always a lot of fun for the dogs and the people who bring them.

The Humane Society of Washington County staff and volunteers will be washing dogs on Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Table space is available for folks interested in divesting themselves of those long forgotten or unnecessary "treasures" they have around the house.

The animal shelter is at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown. For more information, call 301-733-2060 or go to on the Web for information on animal-related issues, directions to the shelter and information about its programs and services.

Vacation Bible school to be held

Zion Assembly of God, at 13814 Village Mill Drive in Maugansville, will host its vacation Bible school the week of Aug. 4 to 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Bring your children, ages 5 to 10 to enjoy "Cosmic City: Explore the Awesome Wonder of God."

For more information, call 301-739-3888.

Dragsters on display in Maugansville

The Maugansville Creamery will have on display V-Rex Racing dragsters. These are three junior dragsters and a full size rail. Cars, drivers and crew will be at the Maugansville Creamery today from 6 to 9 p.m. Also, the Maugansville Fire Department will have a display with firefighters answering questions.

Shelter bonanza fundraiser canceled

The inaugural Rockin' Four Paws Bonanza fundraiser to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County, scheduled for Aug. 2, has been canceled.

Ticket buyers will receive refunds for the price of the tickets.

"We are disappointed the bonanza will not take place," said Paul Miller, executive director of the shelter.

"We aren't sure why the tickets didn't sell, but it could be because August is a very busy month with back-to-school preparation."

The shelter hopes to reschedule the event at a later date.

Scott Wishard of Maugansville is celebrating a birthday on July 26. Happy birthday, hubby.
