Public hearing on changes to subdivision law set in Berkeley

July 25, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Berkeley County Planning Commission on Monday evening scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 15 to consider input on proposed revisions to the county's subdivision ordinance.

Berkeley County Planning Department Director Stefanie Morton told commissioners that a staff review of proposed development guidelines was about half complete.

In June, commissioners learned that revisions already tentatively approved after previous public hearings were damaged by a computer crash at the offices of a consultant who was finalizing a draft of the ordinance.

The Planning Commission on Monday evening also scheduled a workshop for Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. on to examine the draft themselves before the public hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Anticipated changes to the subdivision ordinance were delayed until after county voters decided questions on zoning and transferable development rights. Both ordinances were overwhelmingly defeated in the primary election in May.
