July 24, 2008

Chartered in February, the Antietam Chapter 312 of the Korean War Veterans Association has selected its officers for 2008-2009 - its first full year.

The new officers are Les Bishop, secretary; Wayne Winebrenner, 1st vice commander; Ned Renner, commander; Jim Ensminger, 2nd vice commander; Don Smith, treasurer; Bob Sandberg, adjutant; Clayton Burkholder, historian; Al Lane, chaplain; and Pat Patterson, sergeant at arms.

Last fall, the call went out for any veterans of the Korean War era to help form a veterans group.

Between 18 and 20 veterans attended that first meeting which led to the chartering in February.

Now there are 53 members of the organization.

Membership is open to anyone who served in the Korean War or in the military outside of Korea from June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955.

The chapter meets at the AMVETS on Frederick Street the first Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m.
