John L. Sowers, 85

John Leroy Sowers, 85, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at his home.

Born Nov. 27, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Basil Leroy and Sara Preston Williams Sowers.

He attended Naval Engineering School in Deerborne, Mich.

He retired from Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Elta Mae Carter Sowers, whom he married Aug. 5, 1951; one son, John D. Sowers at home; two grandsons, Ian C. D. Hobbs and Wesley E. B. Hobbs, both of Ocean City, Md.; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Taylor.

Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

WILLIAMSPORT - Ruth Louise Stenger, 82, of Williamsport, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Washington County Hospital Hagerstown, Md.

Born May 14, 1926, in Clear Spring, Md., to the late Robert Leo and Catherine Louise Bowers Eichelberger.

She attended Clear Spring schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Stenger in 1985.

Her and her husband were the owner/operators of Pinesburg Grocery.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She was a member of AMVETS Post No. 10 Ladies Auxiliary, Hagerstown.

Survivors include sister, Miriam V. Hoover-Hose of Pinesburg, Md., sister, Thelma J. Naile of Clear Spring; special nephew, Dennis J. Naile Sr. of Clear Spring, special nephew, Jack L. Hoover of Pinesburg; great-nephew, D.J. Naile Jr. of Clear Spring.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Hoffman and Gladys Eichelberger and three brothers Robert Eichelberger, Guy Eichelberger and Charles Eichelberger.

Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 2 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rennis G. Fox Sr., 61, of 463 E. Catherine St., died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at his home.

Born Nov. 17, 1946, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Jean F. Etter Fox of Chambersburg and the late George R. Fox.

He had been employed by Letterkenny Army Depot and managed Zeek's Food and Fuel in Waynesboro, Pa.

He attended King Street United Brethren Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Rennis G. Fox Jr. of Fayetteville, Pa.; one stepson, Alan Williams of Waynesboro; three sisters, Brenda J. Greenawalt of Chambersburg, Kathy E. Kayhoe of Waynesboro and Trudy A. Cooley of Fayetteville; one aunt; nieces; and nephews.

A memorial service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester Stine will officiate.

The family will receive friends Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be private.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - LeRoy R. Goshorn Sr., 81, of Chambersburg, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital.

He is survied by three daughters, Gloria Carter of Peoria, Ariz., Lenora Keyes of Chambersburg and Rayona Grooms of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sons, Leroy Goshorn Jr. and Clarence Goshorn, both of Chambersburg; one sister; three brothers; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside military services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. Pastor John Pogue will officiate.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Margaret Carroll McBee, 83, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born in 1925, in Greensburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Anna M. Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Dwan McBee, in 2006. They were married April 11, 1953.

She attended Catholic University.

She was employed as a secretary.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.

She is survived by one daughter, Teresa A. McBee-Massimino of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three sons, Stephen C. McBee and Patrick M. McBee, both of Berkeley Springs and David E. McBee of Washington D.C.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward L. Carroll.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
