CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Joshua Stephen Hess, 15, of 8179 Grindstone Hill Road, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the scene of an all-terrain vehicle accident on Newcomer Road in Chambersburg.

Born April 15, 1993, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Luke A. and Denita Cable Hess of 8179 Grindstone Hill Road in Chambersburg.

He worked with his father at home in his woodworking business.

He attended the Browns Mill congregation of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church near Chambersburg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Monica Hess and Hannah Hess, both at home; four brothers, Marcus Hess, Jesse Hess, Samuel Hess and Mylon Hess, all at home; paternal grandparents, Richard and Martha Hess of Chambersburg; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Kathleen Cable of Rossville, Ind.; and paternal great-grandmother, Irene Hess of Shady Grove, Pa.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Browns Mill Meeting House, Chambersburg. The Brethren will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Browns Mill Meeting House.

Robert E. Self, 77

INWOOD, W.Va. - Robert E. Self, 77, of Inwood, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at his home.

Born June 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Gertrude F. Watson Self.

His first wife, Eloise Self, preceded him in death.

He was a retired member of the Secret Service.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He attended Bunker Hill (W.Va.) Brethren in Christ Church.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor J. Self; four daughters, Deborah K. Self of Inwood, Laura D. Metcalf of Hamilton Va., Jean M. Self-Trail of Leesburg, Va., and Nita C. Ostroff of Ridgeley, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Gail E. Butler of Arden, W.Va.; two sons, Charles A. Self of Florida and Edwin H. Self of New Jersey; one brother, Charles M. Self of Cincinnati; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Florence J. Cromley.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home's South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood. The Rev. Raymond Martin and David Butler will officiate. Military graveside services will be at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the chapel.

Savannah Mae Walker, 1-day-old infant

KEEDYSVILLE - Savannah Mae Walker, 1-day-old infant daughter of Ronald L. and Linda Jo Kreigline Walker of Keedysville, Md., died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by sisters and brother, Abby, Amber, Kayla and Kolin; paternal grandmother, Dixie Walker; maternal grandfather, James Kreigline; aunts and uncles, Debra Ramsburg, Tina Flickinger, Eddie Anderson, James Walker and Nancy Hernandez; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Georgia Kreigline; her paternal grandfather, Edward James Walker Sr.; and one uncle, Edward James Walker Jr.

There will be no services.

Arrangements are by Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.




Veryle L. Mumma Jr., 53

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Veryle L. Mumma Jr., 53, of Chambersburg, died Monday, July 21, 2008, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.

Born on Dec. 13, 1954, in McConnellsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Veryle Mumma Sr. and Beulah Mellott Mumma of Chambersburg.

He was last employed by Beck Manufacturing in Greencastle, Pa.

He was a member of Freedom in Christ Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tina Reed Mumma, whom he married June 11, 1977; one daughter, Candy Breon of St. Thomas, Pa.; four sisters, Audrey Lissefeld and Helen Rodkey, both of Chambersburg, Janet Hott of Maryland and Ethel Kelley of West Virginia; one brother, Frank Mumma of Chambersburg; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Susan.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Freedom in Christ Church, Chambersburg. Pastors John Pogue and Vic Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
