Pen Mar

Spectrum is the featured band this Sunday as the summer concert series continues at Pen Mar Park.

This local variety band has been performing throughout the Four-State area for more than 25 years.

The band will play from 2 to 5 p.m.

Class of 1958

The SHS class of 1958 is planning its 50th reunion on Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6. For more information, call Peggy Reid at 301-791-2107.

TOPS 462

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter No. 462, Smithsburg, had an interesting meeting last week.

The chapter leader, John, returned from Chicago, where the International Recognition Day was held. John told the group about all the winners of weight loss. The chapter also welcomed two visitors.

The group meets at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 51 S. Main St., Smithsburg. Weigh-in is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and the meeting is from 6 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 301-824-7650.

Smithsburg Middle School

The following is the results of the Washington County History Day competition:

Category: Documentary (individual) first place: Title: Coal Mining in the USA. Student: Elizabeth Dennis. Teacher: Nancy Souders. Second place: Title: Korean War. Student: Danielle Eyler. The following students were honored at the state level at UMBC in Baltimore: Special prize in Women's History, sponsored by the Women's Studies Department, University of Maryland, College Park: Students: Alexis Andrukat and Corey Bryce. Topic: Title 1X. School: Smithsburg Middle. Teacher: Nancy Souders.

HCC hosts Army band

Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will host the U.S. Army Materiel Command Band as part of its annual Red, White and Blue Concert Series on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 4 p.m., in HCC's Alumni Amphitheater.

The AMC show band, Raw Materiel, performs a variety of lively rock and pop music. The group frequently plays at recruiting and community events, as well as for troop support missions. Since 2004, Raw Materiel has deployed every year on short, temporary change-of-station missions in support of forward deployed AMC soldiers and civilians. Co-sponsored by the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, this concert is free and is open to the public.
