Mailman delivers for Drive against Suns

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- David Mailman hit a two-out, three-run homer off Erik Arnesen in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Greenville Drive to a 5-2 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Monday night.

The Suns capitalized on three Greenville errors in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Mark Gildea hit a two-out double to right and scored as Valerio Heredia reached on an error. Another error on the play allowed Heredia to take second. He then stole third and scored on catcher Juan Apodaca's throwing error.

The Drive answered with two runs in the fourth off Suns starter Terrence Engles to tie the game at 2.

Engles allowed three hits, two walks and the two runs while striking out six in five innings.

Arnesen (6-4) pitched the final three innings, taking the loss. He gave up five hits, two walks and struck out one.

Hagerstown batters struck out 13 times, with Drive starter Terumasa Matsuo notching 10 of the Ks in his 5 2/3 innings.

Kyle Fernandes (3-1) worked 2 1/3 innings for the win, and Felix Ventura pitched the ninth for his 13th save.

Carlos Fernandez-Oliva had three of the Drive's eight hits and scored twice.
