National Park Service seeks information about vandalism at McMahons Mill area

The National Park Service is seeking information regarding vandalism earlier this summer at the McMahons Mill area of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park at the end of Avis Mill Road.

Sometime between Sunday June 8, and Tuesday, June 10, graffiti was spray painted on the parking area and the park's natural and cultural resources along the Potomac River.

Park rangers have increased patrol in this area to prevent further vandalism.

Washington County deputies respond to calls

The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the following calls in recent days:

Monday, July 21

o Cash was taken in a break-in at Mid Atlantic Protel, 1700 block of Massey Boulevard, reported at 5 a.m.

oA C.W. Hetzer construction trailer in the 18000 block of Shawley Drive was broken into, reported at 7 a.m.

o Windows in construction equipment were broken on Clear Spring Road, reported at 7:45 a.m.

o Jewelry was stolen from a home in the 21000 block of Leiters Mill Road, reported at 6:45 p.m.

Sunday, July 20:

o Applesauce, eggs, mustard and ketchup poured on a vehicle in the 200 block of Water Street in Smithsburg, reported at 9 a.m.

o A vehicle was keyed and the tire stem was cut in the 10000 block of Greenwich Drive, reported at 1 p.m.

o A window was shot with a BB gun in the 11000 block of Tedrick Drive, reported at 3:30 p.m.

o A radar detector, knife and binoculars stolen from a vehicle at the Sears Auto Center, reported at 4 p.m.

o A purse was stolen from a vehicle in the Valley Mall parking lot, reported at 7:45 p.m.

Saturday, July 19:

o A vehicle was keyed overnight in the 1900 block of Londontowne Drive, reported at 8:20 a.m.

o Someone broke into a barn on Trovinger Mill Road, reported at 8:20 a.m.

o The theft of $1,500 worth of beef from the 19000 block of Dogstreet Road, reported at 10:15 a.m.

o The rear window of a vehicle was broken out in the 18000 block of Old Colony Lane, reported at 2 p.m.

o Internal theft of $680 from Sears in the Valley Mall, reported at 3 p.m.

o Vehicle spraypainted in the 21000 block of Leiters Mill Road, reported at 3:30 p.m.

o Door of residence damaged, not entered, in the 17000 block of Reiff Church Road, reported at 6:50 p.m.

o Damage to door of Shamrock Inn, reported at 10:30 p.m.

Friday, July 18:

o Sirius radio and GPS stolen from vehicle at Holiday Inn Express, Railway Lane

o Item valued at $2,000 stolen from garage in 13000 block of Primrose Lane, reported at 9:30 a.m.

o Pink and black Roadmaster bike stolen from 11000 block of Dogwood Drive, reported at 10:45 a.m.

o Schwinn mountain bike and Magma mountain bike found in the 10000 block of Cold Harbor Drive, reported at 3:30 p.m.

o Vehicles spraypainted in the 300 and 400 blocks of Pangborn Boulevard, reported at 4:20 and 5 p.m.

o Theft of approximately $2,000 from a bank account, reported at 5:45 p.m. from 11000 block of Lakeside Drive.

o A greenhouse flooded in the 14000 block of Maugansville Road, reported at 6 p.m.

Monday, July 21:

o A pink girl's 20-inch Next Slumber Park bicycle was found at 345 S. Cleveland Ave., reported at 5:50 a.m.

o Tires on a vehicle parked at 812 Washington Ave. were damaged, reported at 8:43 a.m.

o A purse was taken from 401 Highland Way, reported at 9:54 a.m.

o Child support checks were stolen from 333 N. Jonathan St., reported at 4:49 p.m.

o Medication taken from 1060 Fairview Road, reported at 6:48 p.m.

o A wall damaged at 207 Taylor Ave., reported at 9:30 p.m.

o Two juvenile boys charged with second-degree assault at Count 7, Noland Village, reported at 9:44 p.m.

Sunday, July 19:

o Orange Next Rampage boy's bicycle stolen from 17632 Slate Way, reported at 7:19 p.m.

o Vehicles at 1053 Fairview Road were scratched, reported at 10:36 p.m.

Saturday, July 20:

o Theft of a blue boy's 10-speed 27-inch Montgomery Ward bicycle from 64 W. Antietam St., reported at 11:03 a.m.

o A purse stolen from a vehicle at 32 West Side Ave., reported at 11:26 a.m.
