Betty Jean Mathes, 68



MARCH 4, 1940-JULY 11, 2008

COLUMBIANA, Ohio - Betty Jean Mathes, 68, of Columbiana, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at her home.

Born March 4, 1940, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Esther Zimmerman Manning.

Her husband, William Ray Mathes, died in 2002.

She was last employed in the laundry department of Washington County Hospital.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Mathes.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis Mathes of Shippensburg, Pa., and Jerry Mathes of Columbiana; two sisters, Janet McCleaf and Helen Bowers, both of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, Rogers, Ohio.




Helen L. Brooks, 87

CASCADE - Helen L. Brooks, 87, of Wise Road, Cascade, died Thursday July 17, 2008, at Hearthstone Retirement Home in Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Dec. 23, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Edith Grove Boppe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace W. Brooks.

She was employed by Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont, Md., for 24 years.

She was a member of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville, Md.

She is survived by one son, Chuck Brooks; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces.

She was preceded in death by one son, William B. Brooks.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Bethel Cemetery, Cascade.

Arrangements are by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.




Janet M. Cowles, 72

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Janet Marie Cowles, 72, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Willow Tree Manor in Charles Town, W.Va.

Born Aug. 20, 1935, in Falls Church, Va., she was the daughter of the late Byron O. Sprinkle and Mabel I. Mills Sprinkle.

Her husband, Warren T. Cowles Sr., died in 2007.

She worked in retail sales and land development sales.

She studied under the Jehovah's Witnesses.

She is survived by five daughters, Donna L. Shetley of Linden, Va., Diane L. Rivenburg of Locust Grove, Va., Wanda J. Moffett of Demorest, Ga., and Annamarie Cowles and Tina Busbani, both of Berkeley Springs; five sons, Warren T. Cowles, Mark L. Cowles, Daryl E. Cowles, Derrick E. Cowles and Justin J. Cowles, all of Berkeley Springs; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Joann Altizer.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood United Methodist Church Cemetery, followed by fellowship for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Suite 6 and 7, 301 RHL Blvd., Charleston, WV 23514; or Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

William T. Pritchard, 45

CARLISLE, Pa. - William T. Pritchard, 45, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, in Carlisle.

Born May 29, 1963, in North Hornell, N.Y., he was a son of William B. and Ruth Thomas Pritchard of Hazleton.

He was currently employed as a professor at Shippensburg University in the Communications Department. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Dickinson College, a Master of Arts Degree from Shippensburg University and a Doctorate of Communications Degree from Bowling Green University, Ohio.

Bill was an avid sports fan, especially football and the New York Jets, enjoyed creating and collecting eclectic art, and also enjoyed creative writing, photography, reading and travel. He also loved animals.

Surviving in addition to his parents is a sister, Lisa R. Taddei and husband, Michael, of Mt. Airy, Md. Also survived by his former wife and eternal friend, Christie Pritchard of Canandaigua, N.Y.; two nephews, Benjamin Taddei and Jared Taddei, and a niece, Elise Taddei, all of Mt. Airy. Also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Scott Pritchard.

A service for the celebration of his life was held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 219 North Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Charles Kish officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

A visitation was held from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Paul Wayne Domer, 57, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at City Hospital.

Born July 25, 1950, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles H. Domer Sr. and Katherine Largent Domer, and stepmother, Cora Belle Domer Kimble.
