FREDERICK, Md. -- The Beaver Creek Country Club tandem of professional Dirk Schultz and amateur Ken Lampard brought home a title on Monday in the Maryland State Golf Association's 52nd annual Pro-Am at Holly Hills Country Club.

They fired a 9-under-par 63 to become the first pair from Beaver Creek to win the championship and third from Washington County.

"We're very pleased to finally bring home the iron (trophy)," said Schultz. "We finally got it."

Schultz and Lampard had finished second on three previous occasions.

After a par on the opening hole, Schultz birdied the next three holes. Lampard knocked a 3-wood to within eight feet and knocked down a birdie on No. 7 and Schultz finished off the front nine with a birdie and a 31 on the card.

Schultz birdied from 18 feet on No. 10 and after a string of five pars, birdied No. 16 from four feet. Schultz had a lost ball on No. 17, but Lampard picked up the slack with a seven-foot birdie putt on a tough 17th hole and Schultz finished off the day with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole.

Hoffman sets mark

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Alex Hoffman fired a course-record 9-under-par 63 at Stonebridge Golf Course on Monday to win the 16-18 age division in the Tri-State Junior Golf Assosication's fourth event of the year.

It was the second title for Hoffman this season.

The 16-year-old opened with a torrid 6-under-par 30 on his first nine that included four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 15th hole from 450 yards. Hoffman had more birdies and one bogey on the back nine.

"I hit the ball straight and far and putted real well," said Hoffman, whose score is possibly the second-lowest in Tri-State history.

Alex Kessler and Nick Tornetta, both from Chambersburg, Pa., finished with 67 and 69.

Garrett Ellis won the age 14-15 division with an 88 and Aaron Staley shot a 73 for his second title of the season in the 12-13 age group.
