Pa. Turnpike closed after Sunday crash, traffic rerouted through Hancock

July 21, 2008

BEDFORD, Pa. - All eastbound and westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike were closed for several hours Sunday evening due to a crash at mile marker 140 around 5:45 p.m.

Much of the traffic was sent from Interstate 68 to Interstate 70 through the Hancock area and on to Breezewood, Pa., a Pennsylvania State Police trooper said.

Police said the crash in Napier Township, Bedford County, involved a tractor-trailer and other vehicles. Officials said the tractor-trailer rolled over and ignited. Police say there were injuries, but no one was killed.

State police said the turnpike had reopened in both directions shortly before 10 p.m.
