Frederick County YMCA speaker series



FREDERICK, Md. - The YMCA of Frederick County will start a speaker series in August. Sessions will run from 7 to 9 p.m. in the activities room at the YMCA, 1000 N. Market St. There is no cost.

Topics are:

o Aug. 7 - "Anxiety in Our Children" presented by Lin Phelps, Step-Up training coordinator of the Mental Health Association of Frederick County. Jennifer Lehman, systems navigator for MHA, will attend to help with referral advice for families.

o Aug. 21 - "What is This Thing Called Stress, and Why Did it Follow Me Home?" presented by Patricia Hanberry, CEO of Mental Health Association of Frederick County.

Health fair at Hagerstown's Walnut Street center is Aug. 9



Walnut Street Community Health Center, 24 N. Walnut St. in Hagerstown will hold a health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. The health fair is scheduled rain or shine.

The health fair will offer free health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, PSA for men older than 50, osteoporosis, breast exams, vascular testing and skin testing.

Community health agencies will provide information and giveaways. There also will be door prizes, a fire truck tour, refreshments, balloons and face painting.
