Leadership changes hands at Hagerstown Rotary Club

July 20, 2008

On June 18, Hagerstown Rotary Club President Neal Glessner passed the gavel to incoming president Arnold "Art" Callaham. Callaham will be club president during the 2008-09 Rotary year.

Under Glessner's leadership in 2007-08, the club grew in membership by five.

Along with the four other Rotary clubs, the Hagerstown club participated in the annual Dictionary Project where all third-graders in the county, both at public and private schools, received a dictionary.

Through fundraisers, which include the 2 for 1 coupon book, the bull and oyster feed, the golf tournament and the auction night, the club raised more than $79,000.

The club's foundation distributed $69,000 back to the community's nonprofit organizations for capital projects and more than $5,000 in contributions to organizations for children.

The club also sponsors several youth sports teams and gave them trophies at a Hagerstown Suns game in May.
