Motorcycle crash sends two to Washington County Hospital

A motorcycle accident late Friday in the 400 block of East Oak Ridge Drive sent two people to Washington County Hospital, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Michael Troy Wilson, 40, of 17952 Hickory Lane in Hagerstown, was westbound passing the Funkstown bridge when he accelerated up a hill and lost control of the motorcycle as he traveled around a turn Friday at 10:30 p.m., Deputy Corey McCarthy said.

The motorcycle skidded on its side, striking a telephone pole and then a mailbox, McCarthy said.

The passenger, Cynthia Ruth Wise, 53, of 210 Pennsylvania Ave. in Cumberland, Md., went off the motorcycle, striking her head on a rock embankment, McCarthy said.

Wise was in fair condition Saturday night at Washington County Hospital, a hospital official said. Wilson no longer was at the hospital, the official said.

Wilson was cited for speed greater than reasonable, McCarthy said.

Both Wilson and Wise were wearing protective helmets, McCarthy said.

Man charged after copper found cut at contracting firm

IJAMSVILLE, Md. -- A College Park, Md., man was charged with burglary and theft after police responded Friday night to a call about a suspicious person at Wolf Contractors at 2502 Urbana Pike, according to a press release from Maryland State Police in Frederick.

Pastor Fabricio Machado, 39, was charged with second-degree burglary, motor vehicle theft and trespassing, troopers said, noting that "Pastor" is a name, not a title.

A witness called 911 stating he saw someone who appeared to be removing copper tubing from large spools located behind the business, troopers said.

Troopers saw an unlocked fence gate and a pickup truck parked inside along with several bundles of copper tubing that had been cut from a nearby larger roll of tubing, troopers said.

Machado was found inside the fenced area. A tool bag found next to Machado contained a reciprocating saw, troopers said.

Troopers later discovered that the truck parked inside the fence had been stolen.

Machado was taken to the Frederick County Detention Center, where he was being held on $10,000 bond, jail officials said Saturday.
