Masons initiate new member

Antietam Lodge 197 initiated their newest member into the lodge, Nolan Jay Brandenburg of Keedysville.

Brandenburg is a mechanical engineer with the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Germantown, Md., and a volunteer firefighter at the station in Boonsboro.

More than 20 masons were in attendance for this special event. This is the first of three degrees that are required to become a master mason. A portion of the degree ritual was performed by the line officers of Antietam Lodge 197 and a portion by members of Columbia Lodge 58 of Frederick, Md. Following the ritual of imitation, all brothers were invited to the social hall for food, refreshment and fellowship.

Antietam Ironworks to hold cooking class

Antietam Ironworks, at 3768 Harpers Ferry Road, Sharpsburg, pairs up with chef Maria Canora for a hands-on cooking course with a seated dinner. Three sessions are being offered. Each session is approximately four hours long.

The price for the class will be determined by current market prices and will range from $90 to $115. Classes are designed for all skill level and are fun, relaxed and informative. BHS Class of 1977 to hold family picnic

The Boonsboro High School Class of 1977 will hold a family picnic Sunday, Aug. 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Family Recreation Center on U.S. 40 east of Hagerstown.

Jamison to collect Sharpsburg taxes

Sharpsburg tax collector Debra L. Jamison will collect Sharpsburg Town taxes in the Town Hall council room Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. during the months of July and August.
