Charles P. McKendrick Jr., 59

SEPT. 15, 1948-JULY 16, 2008

WILLIAMSPORT - Charles Patrick "Mac" McKendrick Jr., 59, of Williamsport, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 15, 1948, in Pottsville, Pa., he was the son of Anna Sabodich McKendrick of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and the late Charles Patrick McKendrick Sr.

He was a member of Williamsport Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84 and Williamsport American Legion Post 202.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Janette McKendrick; one daughter, Carol Harrah of Mount Airy, Md.; two sons, Paul J. Bennett of Charlottesville, N.C., and Richard Bennett of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Mary Smedley of Laurel, Md.; two brothers, Robert McKendrick and Francis McKendrick, both of Mechanicsburg; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Collin Poston will officiate.


The family will receive friends Monday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home, with another memorial service at 12:45 p.m. by Williamsport Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84.

Johnnie E. Seward, 74

MARCH 20, 1934-JULY 16, 2008

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Johnnie Edward Seward, 74, of Falling Waters, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008.

Born March 20, 1934, in Oak Hill, W.Va., he was the son of the late Max and Mabel Seward and stepmother Melinda Seward.

He owned and operated several different clubs in the Martinsburg area for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth S. Seward; two daughters, Mary Gouker of Ellicott City, Md., and Elizabeth Beaulieu of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, John Seward Jr. of Martinsburg; one sister, Shirley Guessford of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one nephew; and one great nephew.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Tibbett and Elzada Tackett; and one granddaughter.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Elisabeth J. Palyi, 60

JAN. 27, 1948-JULY 13, 2008

RANSON, W.Va. - Elisabeth Judith Palyi, 60, of Ranson, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at her home.

Born Jan. 27, 1948, in Austria, she was the daughter of the late Georg Palyi and Ilona Susanna Palyi Crettier.

She was employed as a graphic designer by Orbital Science Co. in Sterling, Va.

She is survived by one daughter, Anne Holmes of Martinsburg; three sisters, Susanne Palyi of Miami, and Katalin Palyi and Ana Maria Palyi both of Santiago, Chile; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town, W.Va.

Memorial services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Orbital Science Co., Dulles, Va.

Chester N. Jenkins, 73

MAY 3, 1935-JULY 17, 2008

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Chester Newman Jenkins, 73, of 205 E. Potomac Street, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at his home.

Born May 3, 1935, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Roy Jenkins and Elizabeth Sweeney.

He worked as a carpenter.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 1136 of Brunswick.

He is survived by a special companion, Louise Carter of Brunswick; two daughters, Crystal Jenkins of Hagerstown and Shani Jenkins of Brunswick; one grandson; and six children from a previous marriage.

Memorial services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick. Pastor Larry Turbyfield will officiate. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be Monday at noon at the funeral home.

Barbara J. Barnhart, 60

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Barbara Jean Barnhart, 60, of Hudson Court, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born Feb. 16, 1948, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Grely and Margaret Alderton Yost.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Albert Barnhart, who died July 8, 2000.

She was employed by the former Londontown in Hancock.

She was a member of Warfordsburg (Pa.) Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Harper of Warfordsburg; two sons, Stephen Barnhart of Hancock and Jason Barnhart of Warfordsburg; two sisters, Mary Gordon and Ruth Whatmore, both of Martinsburg; four brothers, Larry Sims of Inwood, W.Va., Mike Curtis of Nebraska, Mark Yost of Anchorage, Alaska, and Charles Sims of Winchester, Va.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert A. Barnhart; and one brother, Jimmy Sims.
