'Games Galore' camp

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg Memorial YMCA will have Biddy "Games Galore" Camp for 6 to 8 year olds during the week of Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25. Children will be introduced to a variety of fun games, from playground games to gym games, board games and more. The camp will be directed by Chris Misner. The cost for the week is $47 for YMCA members and $63 for nonmembers.

Register now for Colonial Family Fun Day

Want to learn how to play rounders - a forerunner of baseball?

Or maybe you want to compete with other families in a game of quoits - similar to horseshoes or ring toss?

The Hager House in Hagerstown's City Park is hosting its first Colonial Family Fun Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, weather permitting. The deadline to register to participate is 4 p.m. Friday, July 25.

Learn about the history and rules of popular Colonial games such as rounders, nine pins, quoits and rolling the hoop. Then compete against other families or groups for prizes. There also will be more modern games like sack racing and blind man's bluff.

Free document shredding offered Saturday

My Bank First United will partner with RMS Shredding, a professional shredding company, to provide the Washington County community with free document shredding services from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 19. The event will be at its Hagerstown community office, 130 S. Edgewood Drive in Hagerstown.

People are encouraged to bring up to six boxes of sensitive and confidential documents for on-site shredding. All shredded paper will be recycled. Refreshments will be served. For information, call Charles Eichelberger at 301-791-3999.

Junior ranger activities

THURMONT, Md. - Cunningham Falls State Park will host a week-long Junior Ranger session for ages 8 to 14 from Monday, July 28, to Friday, Aug. 1. The programs will be from 6 to 8 p.m. each day at the Manor Area of Cunningham Falls off U.S. 15 in Thurmont.

Activities include a park beautification project, completion of a junior ranger activity book and a wide variety of outdoor activities.

The week will end with successful participants attending an awards ceremony where they will be provided with a certificate and patch to identify himself/herself as a junior ranger.

Host families sought for 2008-09 school year

Center for Cultural Interchange is in need of host families eager to bring the world to their own communities by hosting a foreign exchange student for the 2008-09 school year. Willing host families are asked to help the organization place all of its students before the Friday, Aug. 29, deadline.
