Pig roast set for Saturday

Don't forget the pig and corn roast/community event happening at Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship in Cearfoss on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m.

There will be activities for children, including a water slide.

The meal will be served at 4 p.m. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $4 for those 5 to 12. Children 4 and younger eat free.

The musical entertainment will include:

· Bev Mowen-Hann, 2 p.m.

· Hilltop Gospel Boys, 3 p.m.

· Forgiven, 4 p.m.

· Fertile Soil, 5 p.m.

Cash bonanza

The Ladies of the Elks and Associates No. 378 will hold its annual money bonanza on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Hagerstown Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive. This event is being announced early since tickets are selling fast and they would like to see members and guests who have supported this fundraiser for many years to be aware of this and get their tickets early. Tickets cost $25, which admits ticketholder and one guest. There will be 31 cash prizes and the grand prize is $3,000. Also, if there are losers in the last five drawings, they each will receive $100. In addition, tip jars, 50/50 raffle and door prizes will be available.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Free bottled beer, fountain sodas and mixed drinks (no top shelf or shaker) will be available as well as a dessert table.

Gun giveaway

The Maugansville Fire Co. will hold its second annual Gun Giveaway on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Williamsport Red Men Club, 16129 Lappans Road.

The gate opens at 11:30 a.m. Food will be available from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and beer will be served from noon to 5 p.m. An armband can be purchased for $5 to drink beer all day. The meal will include roast beef sandwiches and other items. Donation is $20 for singles and $30 for a couples.

Broadfording Bible Brethren Church at 13523 Broadfording Church Road in Hagerstown is starting its vacation Bible school Sunday. It will run until Thursday from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m (9 p.m. on Thursday.)

Motorcycle ride

The fifth annual Bone to Be Wild Dave Alderson Memorial Ride will be Sunday in Williamsport. The event benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

It begins at Harley-Davidson: Buell of Williamsport with registration at 10 a.m. The ride gets under way at 11 a.m.

The ride will end at Camp Harding Park in Western Maryland.

Registration costs $20, which includes the ride, a custom designed T-shirt from BJ's Custom Creations, picnic lunch catered by Antietam Ironworks, music by The Spotlights On You DJ and raffle prize chances. The first 100 registered riders receive a specially designed fifth-year ride pin.

On the day of event, tickets cost $25 and riders receive the ride, lunch, music and raffle prizes. T-shirts will be on a first come, first served basis.
