Farming and fun

July 17, 2008|By JULIE E. GREENE

For the farming community, the annual Washington County Ag Expo & Fair is an opportunity for the community's youth to show off their hard work whether it's vegetables they grew, animals they raised or clothes they made.

It's also a social event, a break from working on the farm, and a chance for some of the farmers to show off their labor as well, says Hal Spielman, fair president.

While the rest of us may enjoy the fruits of the farming community's labor, the fair is mostly about cars, trucks, bull riding, music and, this year, carnival rides.

The rides and games were added in response to requests for something more to do for children and nonfarming members of the community, Spielman says.

Also new to the fair this year are Fast Action Motorsports Entertainment's radio-controlled car program with several opportunities for people to compete throughout the fair.
