Clarification

July 17, 2008

The wording of the first paragraph of a story about the cost of gasoline for City of Hagerstown take-home vehicles from November 2006 to October 2007 on page A1 of Wednesday's Herald-Mail could have given some readers an incorrect impression.

Hagerstown Community Affairs Director Karen Giffin said the city's cost of $108,976 for gasoline was for take-home vehicles that were used both to conduct city business and to drive to and from work.

"There is no distinction on these reports between gas used during the regular course of a work day," Giffin said in an e-mail. "This information is purely the amount of gas pumped into the vehicle for each month."
