Williamsport councilman is new district VP of Md. Municipal League

July 16, 2008

WILLIAMSPORT - Jeff Cline, councilman for the Town of Williamsport, recently was elected a member of the board of directors and a district vice president of the Maryland Municipal League (MML).

The MML is a voluntary, nonprofit, nonpartisan association that represents 157 municipal governments and two special taxing districts in Maryland.

Headquartered in Annapolis, the MML works to strengthen the role and capacity of municipal government through research, legislation, technical assistance, training and the dissemination of information to its members.

It is the only statewide organization in Maryland comprised solely of municipal officials, devoted to the promotion of all branches of municipal administration, Cline said.

"The additional training and experience provide the added expertise to better serve Williamsport and Washington County," Cline said.

In his capacity as a district vice president, Cline will be a member of a 31-member board of directors and one of 11 district vice presidents.

The group meets six times a year, unless special meetings are warranted. Elections take place at MML's annual business meeting held during its convention each June.

Cline has served on the MML's communication committee (If I Were Mayor Essay) for three years.
