Area Roundup - Ruff gets win in Xterra Triathlon

FLINTSTONE, Md. - Hagerstown's Dave Ruff won the men's 55-plus age group in the Xterra Off Road Triathlon in 2 hours, 59 minutes.

Other Hagerstown athletes finishing the event included Thomas Dahbura (men's 35-plus, 3:20:55), Paul Brabson (men's 45, 3:36:19) and the relay team of Pete O'Boyle, Lauren O'Boyle and Shana Ruff, which finished 11th in 2:58:28. Ruff did the swimming, Pete O'Boyle the biking and Lauren O'Boyle the running.

The course consists of a 3/4-mile open water swim, a 14-mile mountain bike section and a 5-mile trail run.


Thunder pitching clinic

The Tri-State Thunder softball organization will hold a "Mini-Camp" for pitchers on July 26 (8 a.m. to noon), July 27 (2 to 6 p.m.), July 28 (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.) and July 29 (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.). Cost for all four sessions is $125, cost for the first two sessions only is $100, cost for the last two sessions only is $50 and the cost for a single day is $75 for either of the first two days or $30 for either of the last two days. The clinic will feature time for individual pitching instruction, hitting, fielding on the mound and work on the mental aspect of pitching.
