Funkstown Lions Club holds student recognition dinner

The Funkstown Lions Club held its annual student recognition night at a recent dinner meeting at Richardson's Family Restaurant.

Emma K. Doub Elementary School fifth-grade students Ashlee Fahrney and Mariah Randall were each presented $100 saving bonds as winners of the Principal's Citizenship award.

In addition to these awards, the Funkstown Lions donated $400 to the school to support classroom activities.

Early "Petey" Bates Community Service Scholarships in the amount of $500 were awarded to graduating South Hagerstown High School seniors Karlie Vann and David Stone, both of whom were selected based on their applications emphasizing community and school service.

Karlie plans to attend Hagerstown Community College and pursue a career in neonatal nursing.

David wants to attend West Virginia University and pursue a career in engineering.

Award winners and their families were dinner guests of the Lions Club.
