Funkstown 7, Frederick 5

FUNKSTOWN - Marcellus Sumlin's two-run home run in the sixth inning lifted Funkstown past Frederick in a Western Maryland District game.

Raymond Rosario hit a solo homer in the third inning and finished with two RBIs for Funkstown (17-7, 14-6). Tyler Presgraves went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Derrick Hendershot also had two hits.

Steven Younker (3-1) earned the win with six innings of work, striking out three.

Holes-in-one

* Don Branch, 59, of Hagerstown, aced the par-3, 152-yard seventh hole at Black Rock on Monday. Branch used an 8-iron to score his third career hole-in-one and his second this year. The shot was witnessed by Dave Martin.

* Brian Tritapoe, of Hagerstown, aced the par-3, 115-yard sixth hole at Yingling's Golf Center on Saturday. Tritapoe used a 9-iron. The shot was witnessed by Ray Robertson.

Rams impressive in classroom

Shepherd University was honored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association as a member of the 2007-'08 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll.

Shepherd was ranked 11th among NCAA Division II schools with a cumulative 3.488 grade point average.
