Give blood, win money for gas

Come out to help fuel area patients' blood needs this July and August, and you could be among six lucky individuals to win up to $2,400 in free gas courtesy of the Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross.

Anyone who donates blood or platelets between now and Aug. 31 will automatically be entered in a grand prize drawing for a year's supply of gas, valued at $2,400, or one of five $100 gas cards offered as runner-up prizes.

Upcoming area Red Cross blood drives include:

· Today - Williamsport American Legion, 1 to 7 p.m.

· Today - Hagerstown Donor Center, Conrad Court, noon to 6 p.m.

· Tuesday - Golden Living Center (Dual Highway), 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

· Wednesday - Hagerstown Donor Center, noon to 6 p.m.

· Thursday - Hagerstown Community College (Student Center), 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

· Thursday - Hancock Community Center, noon to 6 p.m.


· Monday, July 21 - Maugansville Ruritan, 2 to 7 p.m.

To donate blood, individuals:

· Must be at least 17 years old (16 years old in Maryland and Pennsylvania with parental consent)

· Weigh at least 110 pounds

· Be in generally good health

"Gas for a Year" value is based upon 12,000 miles driven annually at 20 miles per gallon at $4 per gallon of gas.
