Dennis P. Raney, 85



APRIL 27, 1923-JULY 12, 2008

INWOOD, W.Va. - Dennis Porterfield Raney, 85, of Inwood, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at City Hospital.

Born April 27, 1923, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lee W. Raney and Nina Pearl Baugher Raney.

He was a division auto mechanic for 26 years at Allegheny Power.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion in Martinsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Grant Raney; two daughters, Kimberly A. Allen of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Kenda Jo Bedgar of Lexington Park, Md.; one son, Kevin L. Raney of Inwood; four brothers, Harry, James, Merle and Donald Raney, all of Martinsburg; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Canby, and two brothers, Martin and Millard Raney.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastor Mickey Jo Elliott will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Martinsburg Combined Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Grant "Bill" Gerald Butler, 80, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at City Hospital.

Born Aug. 8, 1927, in Bunker Hill, W.Va., he was the son of the late Grant L. Butler and Laura Henkins Butler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lee Butler.

He was a graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School.

He retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was a member of Arden United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and a member of Williard Brown Sunday School Class.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II.

He was a member of United Commercial Travelers.

He is survived by one sister, Helen F. Pinkerton of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Harry L.Butler of Martinsburg and Earl H. Butler of Purcellville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Anna M. Painter, and two brothers, Robert L. and Stewart H. Butler.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Arden Methodist Church. The Rev. Walter Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
