Six Washington County students awarded FSU scholarships

FROSTBURG, Md. - Six Washington County students were awarded scholarships to study at Frostburg State University.

· Rebecca Ardinger, a 2008 graduate of Clear Spring High School and member of the National Honor Society, was awarded the University Scholarship.

Ardinger, daughter of Sarah and John Ardinger, participated in her high school's band, was on the varsity soccer, varsity indoor and outdoor track teams, is an assistant coach for Clear Spring soccer club and volunteers at St. Paul's Vacation Bible School.

Ardinger was also the recipient of the Maryland Distinguished Scholar Honorable Mention.

· Edward McMurtrie, a 2008 graduate of Boonsboro High School, was awarded the University Scholarship.

McMurtrie was involved in Future Business Leaders of America, and played soccer and tennis for Boonsboro. The son of Brian and Kim McMurtrie, he is interested in studying accounting at FSU and wants to pursue a career as a certified public accountant.

· Kyle Raios, a 2008 graduate of Smithsburg High School and member of the National Honor Society, was awarded the University Scholarship.

Raios is active in the Boy Scouts of America and is a Star Scout. He was also active in nine theater shows and show choir in high school. Raios is the son of Kurt and Kimberly Raios of Hagerstown.

· Amy Ridenour, a 2008 graduate of Clear Spring High School, was awarded the University Scholarship.

Ridenour was the Chapter FFA vice president during her junior year and the Chapter FFA junior adviser during her senior year. She has been recognized several times at the National FFA Convention and was a first-place team member at the Maryland State Envirothon. Ridenour, the daughter of Curtis and Helene Ridenour of Smithsburg, is a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Big Pool.

· Emily Warren, a 2008 graduate of North Hagerstown High School and a member of the National Honor Society, was awarded the University Scholarship.

Warren, daughter of Marvin and Mary Ellen Warren, is an AP scholar with honors and a member of the Honors Club.

She participates in color guard and is a Muscular Dystrophy Association camp counselor.

· Abigail Yeager, a 2008 graduate of Broadfording Christian Academy and a member of the National Honor Society, was awarded the Presidential Scholarship.

Yeager, the daughter of Glenn and Margaret Yeager of Hagerstown, is involved in Y-ROCK (youth drama team), a church worship band, 4-H and martial arts. She volunteers as part of a homeschool leadership team and at the Crisis Pregnancy Center.
