Little League 11-12 tourney progress slowed by rain

July 14, 2008|By CHRIS CARTER

WILLIAMSPORT - The Conococheague Little League grounds crew helped Ebersole Field withstand the first blow by Mother Nature on Sunday.

Her second wind put the field out of commission to end the evening.

A band of storms swept through the area, forcing the Maryland District 1 11-12 Tournament' losers' bracket final to be suspended in the third inning. Conococheague led Maugansville 4-2 after 2 1/2 innings.

The game will resume today at 6 p.m. with Maugansville batting. Pitchers Nick Williams for Conococheague and Justin Sauble for Maugansville are eligible to pitch but their pitch counts will resume from where they were stopped on Sunday.

Jake Moats drove in all four runs by socking a pair of home runs over the left-field fence. He hit a solo shot in the first inning and followed with a three-run homer in the second.

Brandon Haupt drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning and Matt Breakall doubled and scored on a passed ball for Maugansville's two runs.

The game was delayed two hours and started at 7 p.m. after a severe thunderstorm hit on Sunday afternoon. Volunteers prepared the field and officials hoped to squeeze the game in before more rain came just after 8 p.m., making the surface unplayable.
