Fairplay girl donates 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love program

July 13, 2008

Carly Bowman, 8, recently donated 10 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love program.

With only two previous one-inch trims in her life, 10 inches was a dramatic but welcomed change. Her most recent trim was a year ago, and when her hair appeared ready for another trim, she decided to grow it long enough to donate 10 inches to a great cause and still have long hair remaining.

She was inspired to donate her hair by the loss of three grandparents to cancer and by the compelling before-and-after photos on the Locks of Love Web site. Angie Clark of the JC Penney Salon at Valley Mall was happy to perform the haircut. A resident of Fairplay, Carly will be entering the third grade at the new Rockland Woods Elementary School in the fall. She previously attended Saint Joseph School in Martinsburg, W.Va. In her spare time, she competes in figure skating competitions and performs in ice shows.
