Leroy F. Guyer

Due to a source's error, the obituary in Wednesday's edition of The Herald-Mail for Leroy Fred Guyer, omitted information and contained incorrect information.

He is survived by three brothers, Jim Guyer Jr. and John Guyer, both of Hagerstown, and Roger Gordon of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Barnhart and Jake Guyer.

Robert N. Davis

Due to an editorial assistant's error, the obituary in Friday's Herald-Mail for Robert N. Davis contained a misspelled name. His daughter's name is Bobbie J. Freitag.

Robert G. Zahnow, 74

NOV. 20, 1933-JUNE 29, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Robert Gale Zahnow, 74, of the U.S. Soldiers Home, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Born Nov. 20, 1933, in Fergus Falls, Minn., he was the son of the late Albert Emil Robert and Violet Brown Zahnow.


He attended public schools in Minnesota.

He retired, after 20 years of service, as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He then worked as a custodian in the public school system.

He was a Lutheran.

He is survived by two sisters, Lois L. Hoialman of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and Joann Dawson of Costa Mesa, Calif.; one brother, Al Zahnow Jr. of Las Vegas; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Freeman, Kay Stinnett and Phyllis Holly; and one brother, Milo D. Zahnow Sr.

Services will be Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium, with military honors.

Bessie E. Merrbach, 95

JAN. 12, 1913-JULY 10, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Bessie Elizabeth Merrbach, 95, of Cumberland, Md., died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born Jan. 12, 1913, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles G. and Clara Porter.

Her husband, John Merrbach, preceded her in death.

She retired from the State of Maryland, where she worked for Montrose School for Girls.

She was a member of St. Luke's Church in Cumberland.

She is survived by three daughters, Jacqueline Winebrenner of Newark, Del., Joan Dockeny of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Patricia Breeden of Ranson, W.Va.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. at 3086 Winchester Ave., Martinsburg.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home.

James D. Tucker, 34

MAY 4, 1974-

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - James D. Tucker, 34, of Falling Waters, died in Berkeley County, W.Va.

Born May 4, 1974, in Hagerstown, he was the son of James E. Tucker and Linda Redman Tucker of Hedgesville, W.Va.

He was a 1992 graduate of Hedgesville High School and a 1998 graduate of Shepherd University.

He was owner and operator of Gameroom Amusements and co-owner of Pizza Montese.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Inwood, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of seven years, Christina Williams Tucker; one son, Andrew J. Tucker; three sisters, Gina Butts and Jamie Nicholson, both of Martinsburg, and Jody Moats of Inwood; nieces; nephews; and uncles.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Inwood. Pastor Devin B. Ward will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery in Brownsville, Md.

The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home.

Connie M. Ewin, 66

AUG. 23, 1941-JULY 10, 2008

FREDERICK, Md. - Mrs. Connie McGowan Ewin, 66, of Frederick, Md., and formerly of Poolesville, Md., left to be with the Lord with her family by her side on Thursday, July 10, 2008. She was the wife of the late Robert D. Ewin Jr., who died in 1992.

Born in Maryland on Aug. 23, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson McGowan and Juanita Bowman McGowan. She loved spending time with her children, and especially her grandchildren; and, she enjoyed playing bridge with friends.

She is survived by four children, G. Scott Ewin and wife, Lorrie; Robert Craig Ewin and wife, Laurie; Deborah Ewin Facine and husband Michael Jr.; and Barbara E. Prescott and husband, Jason; six grandchildren, Emily Ewin, Sarah Ewin, Robert Prescott, Madison Facine, Jessi Mei Prescott and Mackenzie Facine; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Delores Demory.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N. in Frederick, where funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, July 14. Pastor Mary Garrott will officiate.
