LEGION BASEBALL



WILLIAMSPORT -- Travis Sluger pitched a complete-game six-hitter with six strikeouts and had an RBI as the Williamsport Nationals beat Funkstown 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

The Nationals scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. A.J. Jamison led off with a double and scored on a single by Sluger, who scored on a double by Jake Pendergraft.

Derrick Hendershot hit a solo home run for Funkstown in the fifth. Marcellus Sumlin had two hits for Funkstown.

JFK 50 filling at record pace

Registration for the 46th annual JFK 50 Mile ultramarathon, to be held Nov. 22 in Washington County, is filling at a record pace, race director Mike Spinnler said Wednesday night.

There already are nearly 600 registrants. The race is limited to 1,000 starters.

Cook Memorial Mile

The fifth annual Tim & Susan Cook Memorial ChambersFest One-Mile Race will be held Saturday morning in Chambersburg, beginning at Chambersburg Middle School and ending at Chambersburg High School.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. at the Chambersburg YMCA. The women's race starts at 8, the men's race at 8:30 and the fun run/walk begins at 9. The award ceremony follows at 9:30.
